The Topics
The topics that Senja mainly focuses on is philosophy, psychology and photographic journalism. She explores her own mind and creates intricate images which express certain emotions that she has experienced throughout her life.
The Techniques
Senja explores the boundaries of analogue photography through experimental processes that involve intentionally altering and distorting film. Her work investigates how different substances affect color and texture, allowing her to push the material limits of the medium. Drawing inspiration from artists like Man Ray, she employs alternative printing methods such as solarization, cyanotype, and various organic printing techniques.
Once she has developed the visual foundation for a project, Senja expands it into immersive installations. These installations are designed to bring the emotional and aesthetic atmosphere of her imagery to life, allowing viewers to step into a world that reflects her inner experience. Her installations are not just visual; they evoke the feelings and states of being that inspired the photographs themselves.
Specializing in analogue techniques, Senja works extensively with film and paper development. She often travels with a portable darkroom, developing her film on-site to maintain a direct and intimate connection with the environment she’s documenting.
Senja’s Biography
Born in 1996, Senja grew up moving frequently across countries and continents due to her father’s internationally recognized engineering career. Her family rarely stayed in one place for more than six years, and by the time she turned 18, she had lived in numerous countries across three continents. This constant change and exposure to diverse cultures deeply influenced her perspective and led her to explore various artistic mediums as a way to process and express complex emotions. These formative experiences laid the foundation for the contemporary art practice she continues to develop today.
In 2021, Senja earned a Master’s degree in Photography and Visual Design. She later relocated to northern Sweden to pursue a second Master’s degree in Fine Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Umeå, which she completed in 2025. Her practice is primarily rooted in autobiographical research and often explores the concepts of time, memory, and emotion through a personal and reflective lens.
